1. Maintain a consistent "ambience"

Slag or solid impurities in the molten metal can be a significant problem when the welding process occurs. Nitrogen reduces the amount of dross produced during the soldering process, thereby strengthening the solder.
4. Reduce/prevent oxidation
Oxidation is the formation of oxygen particles that can have catastrophic consequences for electronics if the particles are embedded between the solder and the material. Solder will be weakened and defects will appear. Nitrogen, however, reduces the presence of oxygen molecules - thereby increasing the strength of the solder and preventing oxidation from occurring.
